President Prabowo Orders All Ministers to Improve Free Nutrition Program
Indonesian President Prabowo has instructed the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) to secure cooperation from relevant ministries and agencies to improve the management of the Free Nutrition Program (MBG). The Coordinating Minister for Food will oversee the coordination. In particular, policy reviews are requested regarding program implementation in disadvantaged regions and provision to affluent families.
President Prabowo Subianto has instructed all relevant ministries and agencies to assist the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) in improving the management of the Free Nutrition Program (MBG). This was conveyed by the Deputy Head of BGN, Agustina Arumsari, after attending a meeting with President Prabowo at the State Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (15/7/2026). One of the agenda items in the meeting was the supervision and strengthening of the MBG program's implementation. "The most important point from the meeting was that the President assigned all relevant ministers to help BGN leadership in carrying out improvements. That was his direct order," Agustina told reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday night. According to Agustina, the process of improving the MBG program will be coordinated by the Coordinating Minister for Food, Zulkifli Hasan, involving the Ministry of Finance up to the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP). "He is tasked with coordinating this improvement process. But the essence is that everyone should help this program because they know it is not easy. That is the core point," she said. In addition, Agustina stated that Prabowo requested that several policies related to the implementation of MBG be studied more deeply. Some of these include the implementation of MBG in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions, as well as the provision of MBG for children from affluent families. "The President asked us to re-examine such matters. We are given approximately one month, please re-examine them. Then, for example, there are proposals like what if this level (of wealthy people) is no longer given benefits, that was the discussion earlier, because in a meeting there is discussion, there are proposals, there are agreements, and there are disagreements," Agustina explained. She said that President Prabowo wants every policy to be studied carefully to produce the right decision. On the other hand, the President also asked BGN to organize the Service Units for Nutrition Fulfillment (SPPG) or MBG kitchens to comply with the established standards and quality. "So, the President truly wants the improvements to be made carefully, not rushed, and to be fair. That is what I have noted well, because for us, this is a good thing," she elaborated.
