Despite Junta Leader's Import Restrictions, Min Aung Hlaing's Son, Daughter, and Associates Continue to Import Electric Vehicles (EVs)

Yangon, July 13 Despite the terrorist Min Aung Hlaing's efforts to save foreign currency and control imports through a 100-day plan, his son, daughter, and their associates are reportedly continuing to receive permits for importing electric vehicles (EVs), according to military sources in Naypyidaw and UMFCCI economic sources. Following his assumption of the role of a fake president on April 10, the terrorist military leader Min Aung Hlaing has issued around 300 EV import permits and continues to issue them. It is understood that the primary recipients of these import permits are from the circles of Min Aung Hlaing's son, Aung Pyae Sone, and his daughter, Thet Khin Thet Mon. While Min Aung Hlaing is reducing import permits and quotas for essential fuels and cooking oil for the public, electric vehicles (EVs) are reportedly arriving continuously at Yangon port. In recent days, no less than 20 electric vehicles (EVs) have arrived at Yangon ports. These EVs include Chinese BYD models imported by Aung Pyae Sone's associates and Leapmotor models imported by Thet Khin Thet Mon's associates, according to sources. Among these electric vehicles, 15 vehicles at Asia World Port were cleared through customs on June 30, 2 followed by 2 vehicles at Thilawa Port on June 30, and the remaining 3 vehicles on July 1, according to a military statement. The imported EV vehicles were inspected and released in accordance with procedures on July 3, and the prescribed taxes for these imports have been collected, it is understood. "EVs are coming in continuously. Among imports, only EVs can be imported continuously. Some showrooms buy EVs wholesale from the circles of the daughter-in-law and son (Thet Khin Thet Mon and Aung Pyae Sone)," said a UMFCCI source. Domestic EV imports are monopolized by the circles of Min Aung Hlaing's son, Aung Pyae Sone, and daughter, Thet Khin Thet Mon. While Min Aung Hlaing is formulating a policy to replace fuel-powered vehicles in Myanmar with electric vehicles (EVs), his son Aung Pyae Sone and daughter Thet Khin Thet Mon are importing large quantities of electric vehicles (EVs) from China into Myanmar. Following the terrorist military leader Min Aung Hlaing's announcement on April 20, 2023, granting tax exemptions for imports of solar power and related equipment from abroad to ensure sufficient domestic electricity supply, his son and daughter have been heavily importing solar power systems and EV (electric vehicle) imports into Myanmar. Min Aung Hlaing's daughter, Thet Khin Thet Mon, along with her associates Naing Phyo Kyaw and Wai Yan Min Maung, has established NPK Motor Co Ltd and is importing and selling various types of electric vehicles, including MG Myanmar and Leapmotor Myanmar brands, into Myanmar. In addition to importing various brands of electric vehicles into Myanmar, NPK Motor Co Ltd, owned by Min Aung Hlaing's daughter Thet Khin Thet Mon, has also obtained the rights to operate EV Charging Stations across Myanmar. Similarly, Min Aung Hlaing's son, Aung Pyae Sone, is reportedly importing electric vehicles (EVs) from China's BYD company through numerous domestic subsidiary companies.
