Prabowo Urges EAEU Members to Expedite FTA Ratification with Indonesia

Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto has strongly urged member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) to promptly ratify the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Indonesia. This call aims to strengthen economic relations between the two regions and contribute to regional economic growth. Minister Prabowo expressed his expectation that the EAEU member states would expedite the ratification of this FTA, which would expand trade and investment opportunities with Indonesia. Notably, Indonesia, as a central economic power in ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), sees the conclusion of an FTA with the EAEU as a means to further solidify economic ties between the two regions. The EAEU is an economic integration bloc comprising Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan. The FTA with Indonesia aims to improve market access for both parties through measures such as tariff reductions and the removal of non-tariff barriers. This is expected to facilitate the circulation of Indonesian agricultural and industrial products into the EAEU market, as well as EAEU's energy resources and industrial goods into the Indonesian market. This appeal by Minister Prabowo is seen as part of Indonesia's diplomatic strategy to enhance its economic influence and strengthen its position in global supply chains. The ratification of the FTA depends on the domestic procedures of the member states, and future progress is keenly awaited.
