Ford Recalls Over 1,500 Ranger Vehicles in Vietnam for Airbag Defect

Ford Vietnam has announced a recall program for 1,514 imported Ford Ranger vehicles manufactured in Thailand, citing a defect that could prevent side curtain airbags from deploying correctly during a collision. The issue affects vehicles produced between April 20 and June 24, 2026. The affected models include the XLS AT 4x2, Wildtrak 2.0, Wildtrak 3.0, and Raptor variants. Ford stated that the technical fault was identified during routine quality testing and improvement processes. The company has not issued any instructions to stop driving affected vehicles. Authorized Ford dealerships will replace the B-pillar airbag bracket free of charge for all affected customers. The repair process is expected to take more than one working day, depending on dealership operations. The Ford Ranger is the best-selling Ford model in Vietnam, available in both locally assembled (CKD) and imported versions. As of July this year, cumulative sales reached 7,959 units, with locally assembled models accounting for approximately 79% of total sales and imported models making up the remaining 21%. The Ranger has maintained its dominance in Vietnam's pickup truck market for many years. Pricing for the Ranger ranges from VND 669 million to VND 1.093 billion, with the top-tier Ranger Raptor priced at VND 1.448 billion. Its main competitors include the Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi Triton, Isuzu D-Max, and Nissan Navara.
