Cambodia Seeks Continued Global Fund Technical Support to Enhance GC8 Resource Efficiency

Cambodia has requested the Global Fund to continue providing flexibility and technical support to ensure that resources within the framework of the 8th Replenishment (GC8) are used effectively and focused on high-impact interventions. This request was made during a meeting between Professor Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, and the Global Fund's country team in Cambodia, led by Ms. Sylwia Murray, Fund Portfolio Manager, on September 15, 2026, at the Ministry of Health. During the meeting, Minister Chheang Ra expressed gratitude to the Global Fund for its years of cooperation and continued support for Cambodia's health sector and its people, which has significantly contributed to Cambodia's response to HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria, as well as strengthening the health system, communities, laboratories, and health supply systems. Professor Ra emphasized that GC8 is a new strategic phase towards sustainability, integration, and ownership. He stated that the integration of HIV, TB, and Malaria into the primary healthcare system is being implemented in phases, and maintaining expertise, specialized services, and proximity to communities affected by these three diseases has contributed significantly to Cambodia's exemplary regional model. Ms. Sylwia Murray highlighted the importance of the participation of Non-State Actors, including community organizations, civil society, and NGOs, who play a crucial role in reaching key populations and vulnerable groups, a strategy that is maintained and strengthened in GC8. Cambodia requested the Global Fund to continue providing flexibility and technical support so that GC8 resources can focus on high-impact interventions, protect community health services and critical human resources, support the integration of services into the primary healthcare system, and strengthen sustainable financing mechanisms. Finally, Minister Chheang Ra reaffirmed the Ministry of Health's commitment to continue working closely with the Global Fund and relevant partners to protect the achievements Cambodia has made, reach those who are still underserved, strengthen the health system, and enhance ownership for greater effectiveness and sustainability.
