UNICEF Cambodia Chief Visits New Settlement in Preah Vihear, Assesses Public Services

Ms. Maha Damaj, the UNICEF Representative to Cambodia, accompanied by Dr. Kuong Lo, Advisor to the Ministry of Health and Director of the Preah Vihear Provincial Department of Health, led a UNICEF delegation on September 10, 2026, to visit and understand the living conditions and public service provision for residents in Ta Kung Baitong village, in the new commune of Koulèn district, Preah Vihear province. Ta Kung Baitong village is a new settlement established for residents who previously lived in three villages in the "red zone," namely Morokot (Mom Bei) village, An Seh village, and Bos Sbov village. During the visit, Ms. Maha Damaj and the delegation inspected the health services provided to residents at the Ta Kung Baitong Health Center, seeking to understand the work of health officials, healthcare services, and the response to the needs of the people in the new community. Simultaneously, the UNICEF delegation continued to inspect schools in Ta Kung Baitong village to understand the educational situation, learning environment, and the efforts of teachers in imparting knowledge and educating students. Through the direct visit, Ms. Maha Damaj highly appreciated the efforts and dedication of the health officials and teachers who have actively fulfilled their roles in providing health and education services to the residents and children in Ta Kung Baitong village. According to Dr. Kuong Lo, after visiting the Ta Kung Baitong Health Center, the UNICEF delegation led by Ms. Maha Damaj proceeded to visit the Jem Chhrouk Referral Hospital, located in Jem Chhrouk village, Jem Chhrouk commune, Jem Chhrouk district. Ms. Damaj praised the good service provision at the hospital and stated her intention to continue collaborating with the Provincial Department of Health in the health sector in Preah Vihear province. The Director of the Provincial Department of Health stated that this visit reflects the attention paid to promoting the well-being of the people and children by strengthening health and education services, especially in new communities that are developing and require quality public services.
