Quang Tri Citadel: A July journey of remembrance

July is a month of remembrance and gratitude in Vietnam. During this time, people from across the country make their way to the Quang Tri Citadel to offer incense in memory of the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation’s independence and freedom during the 81-day battle to defend the citadel in 1972. The Quang Tri Citadel serves as a sacred destination for the July remembrance. Each year in July, people of all ages gather at this historic location, bringing with them prayers for peace and respect for the past sacrifices. In recent years, incidents such as the discovery and safe removal of unexploded ordnance from construction sites have been reported, highlighting the ongoing impact of past conflicts on contemporary life. Furthermore, the province is also a site of international exchange, with events like the visit of the Cuban Consul General to a friendship hospital.
