Vietnam Aims for 50 Million International Visitors by 2030

Vietnam is set to significantly boost its tourism sector with an ambitious target of attracting 50 million international visitors annually by 2030. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has outlined three scenarios for the period 2027–2030. Under the most optimistic high-growth scenario, international arrivals are projected to increase by 15–18 percent annually, reaching 45–50 million by 2030. Domestic tourism is expected to reach around 160 million trips, with total tourism revenue estimated at US$80–90 billion. To achieve this goal, Vietnam is stepping up its e-visa rollout to enhance the protection of its citizens and international visitors. While Vietnam's tourism sector has seen a rapid recovery in recent years, it also faces challenges such as a labor shortage. Under its one-party system, Vietnam typically implements government-led national strategies. Tourism is positioned as a key industry to drive economic growth, generate foreign currency, and create jobs. Diversifying tourist sources is also a consideration, especially given strong economic ties with China. This new target underscores Vietnam's commitment to sustainable economic growth and strengthening international engagement.
