Koh Kong Officials Inspect Food Safety, Urge Vendors to Sell Quality Products
Koh Kong province's consumer protection officials conducted inspections of food safety standards at a local market. They emphasized the prohibition of selling low-quality or expired products, warning of penalties for violations. Some vendors also mentioned boycotting Thai products.
Officials from the Consumer Protection, Competition, and Anti-Fraud Directorate-General (K.B.B.) in Koh Kong province have continued to encourage vendors selling at the Tong Tong market in Khemarak Phoumin city to refrain from selling low-quality goods to consumers, emphasizing food safety standards. Mr. Chea Nee, Deputy Head of the Koh Kong K.B.B. branch, in collaboration with officials from the provincial Department of Commerce and market representatives, inspected the quality of food sold to citizens at Tong Tong market on August 4, 2026. He stated that selling goods that do not comply with the Ministry of Commerce's guidelines and negatively affect consumer health will result in legal penalties. He expressed his desire to avoid any vendors facing such consequences for their livelihood. Koh Kong K.B.B. officials urged vendors to sell safe products to consumers, avoiding items that are of poor quality, expired, lack proper labeling or origin, or contain prohibited substances. Notably, a call was made to stop importing Thai products, with many vendors reportedly joining a boycott against them. During the inspection, approximately 15 food items were examined according to basic technical standards. No expired or prohibited substance-laden products were found at this time. However, the officials warned that any violations discovered would lead to legal penalties. Ms. Sreylin and Ms. Kau Sarin, vendors selling frozen meat at Tong Tong market, affirmed that the chicken and fish balls they sell are sourced from registered companies in Phnom Penh and Kandal province, ensuring they do not sell substandard products. They stated they would accept legal consequences if any wrongdoing is detected by the relevant authorities. Most vendors at Tong Tong market are reportedly well-informed about product display standards for citizens and tourists.
