Yinmarbin District Administrator Bo Hswan Thu Maung and some officials are being arrested and interrogated at Sagaing Region Military Headquarters by NUG

AYEYARWADDY TIMES June 29 In connection with the assassination of Battalion Commander Pu Lay Maung (alias Peter) of Battalion (6) in Yinmarbin District, Sagaing Region, some district officials including Yinmarbin District Administrator Bo Hswan Thu Maung are being arrested and interrogated by the National Unity Government (NUG) at the Sagaing Region Military Headquarters, according to local sources. Although detailed circumstances of the arrest and interrogation for security reasons cannot be disclosed at this time, an official from the NUG Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed that official news will be released soon. A member of the revolutionary forces in Yinmarbin said that Bo Hswan Thu Maung and his group were arrested and taken away by the Alpha column based in Sarlingyi, under the order of the General Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (MOD). "The entire district administrator's group has been arrested and taken away by the Alpha column based in Sarlingyi, under the order of the MOD General Headquarters," he told the Irrawaddy Times. On June 26, during a meeting led by District Administrator Bo Hswan Thu Maung, his personal assistant (PA), Ye Baung Nyi Phyo, shot and assassinated Battalion Commander Pu Lay Maung. A video record that circulated on social media showed Ye Baung Nyi Phyo confessing, "Pu Lay Maung offered me 50 million kyats to assassinate my teacher, Bo Hswan Thu Maung, so I shot him back." It is reported that the People's Defence Force (PDF) General Headquarters has confiscated the weapon from the perpetrator, Ye Baung Nyi Phyo, and is detaining him in the Yinmarbin District Jail, while officials from the Sagaing Region Military Command are investigating to uncover the truth of the case. Regarding the assassination of Battalion Commander Pu Lay Maung, other district battalions and revolutionary forces within the Yinmarbin District, including Military Region (1), have strongly demanded that the truth of the case be revealed as soon as possible and that the perpetrators and those who orchestrated the assassination be effectively and decisively punished. Furthermore, the NUG Ministry of Defence and the People's Defence Force of Military Region (1) have issued a statement urging fair handling of the case to ensure that those who committed the assassination of Pu Lay Maung are effectively punished.
