Quang Tri Province to Halve Public Educational Institutions Through Consolidation

Quang Tri Province in central Vietnam has approved a comprehensive plan for the restructuring of its public educational institutions. Under this plan, the number of public educational facilities at the commune/ward level within the province is expected to be reduced by 55%, from the current 831 to 372. This large-scale consolidation aims to enhance the efficiency of educational administration and improve the quality of education, with a target of reducing the number of institutions by at least 50% by the 2026-2027 academic year. Quang Tri Province has also indicated a policy to accelerate the construction and operation of inter-level boarding schools, particularly in border areas. The military and relevant agencies are supporting the progress of construction work. Under Vietnam's one-party system, streamlining local administration is a key policy objective for the central government. Consolidation of institutions in the education sector is expected to yield benefits such as reduced financial burden, optimized teacher allocation, and improved quality through the consolidation of educational resources. However, the impact of consolidation on local communities, including access to education for residents, the treatment of faculty and staff, and the reallocation of school facilities, will be a focus going forward.
