ABA Bank has been recognized with its first Asian Banking & Finance Corporate & Investment Bank of the Year award, reflecting the rapid expansion of its corporate banking franchise and its ability to deliver sophisticated financial solutions to businesses of all sizes. Today, ABA provides corporate lending, trade finance, cash management, escrow services, and digital banking through its ABA Business platform, helping companies improve efficiency, manage risk, and support long-term growth. In this edition of Leader Talks, Cambodia Investment Review Editor Harrison White spoke with Huot Chanthida, Chief Corporate Banking Officer of ABA Bank, about the Bank’s award-winning corporate banking business, supporting Cambodia’s businesses, financing sustainable development, and the future of corporate banking in the Kingdom. From Retail Leader to Corporate Banking Powerhouse Awards Harrison White: ABA has long been recognised as Cambodia’s leading retail bank, but this year you also received the Asian Banking & Finance Award for Corporate & Investment Bank of the Year. What has driven the rapid growth of ABA’s corporate banking business, and what does this recognition mean for the Bank’s long-term strategy? Huot Chanthida: Receiving the Asian Banking and Finance Award for Corporate and Investment Bank of the Year is a significant milestone for ABA. While ABA has long been recognised as Cambodia’s leading retail bank, we have, over the past several years, been deliberately building a corporate banking franchise with the same long-term mindset and commitment to excellence. Today we support businesses ranging from fast-growing SMEs to some of Cambodia’s largest corporates and international investors. Our growth has been driven by three key factors. Firstly, we have developed deep sector expertise, enabling us to understand the unique needs of businesses across different industries and provide tailored corporate banking expertise. Secondly, we have invested significantly in transaction banking, cash management and digital capabilities that help businesses automate processes, improve visibility over liquidity and manage operations more efficiently. Finally, we have evolved into a full-service corporate banking partner, supporting clients throughout every stage of their growth – from day-to-day banking and working capital to supply chain and trade finance solutions, project financing and other investments, allowing clients to meet virtually all of their banking needs through a single trusted financial partner. This award is a recognition of our team’s dedication, our clients’ trust, and our commitment to delivering sustainable value. More importantly, it reinforces our long-term strategy of becoming Cambodia’s leading universal bank – combining retail excellence with a strong corporate and investment banking franchise to support Cambodia’s economic development. Supporting Cambodia’s Business Community Harrison White:: Cambodia’s businesses are operating in an increasingly complex economic environment. How is ABA helping corporate clients manage liquidity, improve cash flow, access financing, and navigate today’s challenges while preparing for future growth? Huot Chanthida: Corporate banking today is no longer just about providing loans. Businesses increasingly expect banks to help them manage cash, optimize liquidity, mitigate risk and support growth across increasingly complex operating environments. At ABA, we support our corporate clients through an integrated suite of services covering lending, trade finance, treasury, cash management, and transaction banking. Our cash management platform enables businesses to optimize liquidity, streamline collections and payments, and gain greater visibility over their cash positions, allowing them to make informed financial decisions. As Cambodia’s economy continues to evolve, our focus is to help businesses remain resilient, improve efficiency, seize new opportunities and grow sustainably. We aim to provide our clients convenient access to financing to facilitate their business operations and expansion. This focus is not limited to traditional financing solutions, but also complex structured financing. Financing Cambodia’s Development Harrison White: ABA has become the largest investor in Cambodia’s first green bond and its first agriculture bond, while also supporting major infrastructure and renewable energy projects. Why are these investments important, and what role do you see corporate banks playing in Cambodia’s sustainable economic development? Huot Chanthida: These investments reflect our belief that banks have a broader responsibility beyond financing businesses – we also have an important role in supporting Cambodia’s sustainable economic development. At ABA, we are proud to have participated in several landmark transactions that support these ambitions. We became the largest investor in Cambodia’s pioneering green bond and the country’s first agriculture bond, while also financing major renewable energy and infrastructure projects, including the SchneiTec solar power plant. These initiatives demonstrate how corporate banking can help transform strategic ideas into projects that generate lasting economic, environmental, and social value. Corporate and investment banking is more than lending. It combines financing with advisory expertise, risk management, capital market solutions, and transaction banking capabilities that enable businesses and large-scale projects to move forward with confidence. By supporting these investments, we are also contributing to the continued development of Cambodia’s capital markets and creating more opportunities for businesses to access financing locally. We remain committed to supporting responsible investments that foster innovation, strengthen key industries, and contribute to Cambodia’s long-term economic prosperity. The Future of Corporate Banking Harrison White: Looking ahead, what is your vision for ABA’s corporate banking division over the next five years? Which industries, opportunities, or emerging trends do you believe will shape the future of corporate banking in Cambodia, and how is ABA positioning itself to remain a market leader? Huot Chanthida: Our ambition is to become Cambodia’s most trusted corporate banking partner, supporting businesses of every size with innovative financial solutions and deep sector expertise. Over the next five years, we expect corporate banking to be increasingly shaped by digital transformation, sustainability, regional trade integration, supply chain evolution, and the growing demand for sophisticated treasury and transaction banking solutions. We also see strong opportunities in manufacturing, infrastructure, renewable energy, agriculture, logistics, technology, healthcare, and sectors that support Cambodia’s continued economic diversification. To remain a market leader, ABA will continue investing in technology, dat
