Russia Claims Downing Nearly 600 Ukrainian Drones After Putin-Trump Talks

Russia's Ministry of Defense announced on September 9th that it had shot down 596 Ukrainian drones over 10 regions, including Crimea, during the night. Local authorities reported that four people were killed in the Ukrainian drone attacks. This announcement came shortly after a phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former US President Donald Trump regarding solutions for the Ukraine conflict. The Ukrainian drone attacks targeted the port city of Novorossiysk on the Black Sea coast, where four people, including a child, were killed and 29 others were injured. The region's governor, Veniamin Kondratyev, stated that the military had repelled the enemy drone attacks, adding that Novorossiysk is a city frequently targeted. After a three-day pause in attacks that ended after midnight, Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, came under new Russian attacks on the night of September 7th to 8th. According to Kyiv's military administration, buildings were damaged in the city and in two districts on the outskirts of the capital. These Russian attacks occurred after a three-day ceasefire that followed the visit of two special envoys from the United States to Moscow and Kyiv. According to a provisional tally by the local military administration, at least two people were killed and seven were injured. Buildings were damaged in several districts of the Ukrainian capital and its suburban areas.
