Cambodia's Minister in charge of the State Secretariat for Border Affairs stressed the vital importance of border affairs for national survival at a seminar in Ratanakiri. The aim is to deepen understanding of international law and history, counter misinformation, and establish borders of peace and development.
AKP Phnom Penh, July 16, 2026— Border affairs are a vital matter of national survival, Cambodia’s border affairs top official said Thursday at a seminar in the northeastern province of Ratanakiri, highlighting the Royal Government’s efforts to establish stable frontiers with neighbouring countries. H.E. Lam Chea, Minister in charge of the State Secretariat for Border Affairs, made the remarks during a seminar on "Border Affairs of the Kingdom of Cambodia" held at the provincial theatre. The event drew 321 participants, including Ratanakiri Provincial leaders, representatives from the ministries of interior and defense, local officials, border village chiefs, security forces, and students. According to Lam Chea, the primary objective of the seminar was to provide local officials, security forces, and residents with a comprehensive understanding of international law, border demarcation techniques, and territorial history. He emphasized that raising public awareness is crucial to countering misinformation and distortion spread by extremist groups, while bolstering efforts to protect Cambodia’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty. "Border affairs are of paramount importance and represent the very life of our nation," Lam Chea said. The minister credited former Prime Minister Hun Sen’s leadership with advancing the Royal Government’s efforts to demarcate firm, clear and definitive borders with neighbouring countries, aimed at safeguarding Cambodia’s territorial integrity for future generations. Lam Chea added that the administration of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet remains firmly committed to maintaining these historic achievements under its "Pentagonal Strategy-Phase I." The current Royal Government’s vision is to complete the demarcation of borders to ensure they serve as frontiers of "friendship, peace, stability, cooperation, and development," the minister said.
