Cambodian Senate Vice President Urges National Unity and Trust in Government

First Vice President of the Senate of Cambodia, Dr. Thon Vathana, has emphasized that national unity is the solid foundation for peace, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the development of the country. He stressed that every citizen must work together to maintain strong internal solidarity, avoiding division. Dr. Thon Vathana urged citizens to have confidence in the leadership of the Royal Government of Cambodia in resolving challenges and protecting national and public interests. This statement was made on September 13, 2026, during his visit to continue meeting and interacting with citizens, local authorities, and commune council members in Kok Rumiet Commune, Thma Koul District, Banteay Meanchey Province. This followed his participation with the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia in distributing aid to approximately 3,000 families residing in a "waiting village" location. Dr. Vathana elaborated that peace is not merely the absence of war but is the basis for citizens to have the opportunity to earn a living, for children to have opportunities for education, and for society to continue developing. Therefore, working together to maintain peace and national solidarity is a valuable contribution from every citizen to the future of the nation. Furthermore, Dr. Vathana instructed local authorities and commune councils to continue performing their roles and responsibilities well, paying close attention to serving citizens with sincerity, responsibility, and timely responses to the challenges they face. Specifically, he called for the continued maintenance of security, safety, and public order in the locality to ensure citizens feel secure and confident in their lives. In addition to focusing on security and social well-being, Dr. Vathana also placed significant emphasis on improving family livelihoods and human resource development. He advised citizens to start by ensuring family members are healthy and possess sufficient knowledge and skills to cope with future societal and economic changes. He particularly encouraged children and youth to focus on learning English, as foreign language proficiency is a tool that can open doors to opportunities for education, employment, and acquiring new knowledge from the world. Investing in children and youth today is an investment in human resources and the future of families and society tomorrow. In the agricultural sector, Dr. Vathana encouraged citizens to strengthen the cultivation of diverse crops to enhance food security and nutrition for families, as well as to create additional income sources through the sale of agricultural products. Cultivating diverse crops not only reduces reliance on external food sources but also helps families have produce for consumption and increases daily income. In this regard, Dr. Thon Vathana requested the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the leadership of the Prek Leap National Agricultural Institute to consider the possibility of providing diverse crop seeds to citizens at reasonable or lower prices, and to transfer agricultural knowledge and techniques suitable for the local reality. This message from Kok Rumiet Commune, Thma Koul District, demonstrates that maintaining peace and territorial integrity is not the sole responsibility of any individual or institution but a collective duty of the entire nation through maintaining solidarity, respecting the law, jointly developing the locality, and building future generations with knowledge and capacity. On this occasion, Dr. Thon Vathana and his working group brought financial aid, rice, and some necessary materials to distribute to 1,000 families, contributing to alleviating difficulties and supporting the daily lives of the residents in the locality.
