Vietnam Orders Review of Post-Retirement Benefits, Citing Irregularities

The Ministry of Home Affairs of Vietnam has instructed all ministries, sectors, and local authorities to conduct a comprehensive review of the benefits provided to individuals who retired under Decree 178. This measure aims to eliminate irregularities and potential improper payments in benefit distribution, ensuring the accurate implementation of policies. The ministry has urged relevant agencies to thoroughly investigate the current status of benefit provisions for retirees and to promptly rectify any errors or shortcomings discovered. Particular emphasis is placed on rigorously verifying the consistency between past payment records and current regulations. This review is positioned as part of Vietnam's ongoing administrative reform efforts. Within Vietnam's one-party system, enhancing the transparency and efficiency of the social security system is a perennial challenge, and the proper management of public funds is paramount for maintaining public trust. All agencies are required to submit their investigation findings and proposed corrective actions to the Ministry of Home Affairs by September 15.
