Cambodia and Cuba Eye Deeper Cooperation in Agriculture and Healthcare

AKP Phnom Penh, September 24, 2026 -- Cambodia and Cuba are exploring opportunities to further expand bilateral cooperation in potential areas, particularly agriculture and healthcare. The discussions took place during a meeting between Samdech Maha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Mrs. Milena Caridad Zaldivar Piedra, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Cambodia, at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh on the afternoon of Sept. 23. During the meeting, the Cuban Ambassador spoke highly of the cooperation between the two countries in various fields over the years. She described Cambodia as a good friend of Cuba that has always supported Cuba in all circumstances and reaffirmed her commitment to further strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation to make it closer and deeper. In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet highlighted the historic relations between Cambodia and Cuba, particularly during Cambodia’s most difficult period following the liberation from the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime. He noted that the good relations between the two countries have continued to the present and are being further strengthened and expanded. The Cambodian Prime Minister expressed optimism that bilateral cooperation would continue to expand into other areas of potential, including agriculture and healthcare. Before concluding the meeting, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and the Cuban Ambassador also discussed and exchanged views on cooperation in education, agriculture, culture and tourism, as well as mutual support at international forums. Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet encouraged the Ambassador to continue engaging with relevant ministries and institutions to explore opportunities for expanding cooperation in various areas of potential.
