MRT Jakarta to Implement Traffic Engineering in Glodok and Kota Areas Starting August 2026

PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) will implement traffic engineering in the Glodok and Kota areas starting August 10, 2026. This arrangement of vehicle flow is carried out to support the construction of MRT Jakarta Phase 2A CP203, which includes the construction of the Glodok and Kota Underground Stations and a connecting tunnel of approximately 690 meters. Rendy Primartantyo, Corporate Secretary Division Head of PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda), stated that the traffic engineering is part of the construction phase of the project, which stretches from Mangga Besar to Kota. "PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) will implement traffic engineering in the construction area of MRT Jakarta Phase 2A CP203 starting August 2026 as part of the construction work phase," Rendy said in his statement on Friday, August 7. Traffic engineering in the Glodok Station area will be implemented in three stages until May 17, 2027. In the first phase, two-way traffic on Jalan Gajah Mada will be diverted through Jalan Hayam Wuruk with a contra flow scheme on some sections of the road. "Two-way traffic that previously used Jalan Gajah Mada will be diverted through Jalan Hayam Wuruk (contra flow of part of the road). During this period, one lane heading north on Jalan Gajah Mada will remain open," he said. MRT Jakarta has also prepared an additional lane on the west side of Jalan Gajah Mada for small vehicles owned by residents and visitors to Jalan Kemurnian IV, Jalan Kemurnian VI, and surrounding areas. In the second phase, direct access from Jalan Kemurnian VI to Jalan Gajah Mada will be temporarily closed. However, access for residents and visitors is still provided through the area in front of the north gate of the Novotel Hotel. Meanwhile, in the third phase, access from Jalan Kemurnian VI to Jalan Gajah Mada will be reopened, while direct access from the north gate of Novotel to Jalan Gajah Mada will be temporarily closed during the work. In addition to Glodok, traffic engineering is also applied in the Kota Station area until January 15, 2027. The arrangement is carried out on Jalan Pintu Besar Selatan and Simpang Asemka to support the construction of an underground corridor connecting Kota Station with the north side entrance. At Jalan Pintu Besar Selatan, vehicle traffic from the south towards the Old City will use the western side lane. Vehicles from the north to the south will be diverted through the west side, then to the east side, before exiting again through the west side. "During this phase, one lane is provided for each direction, which is dedicated to TransJakarta Buses, residents of the area, and vehicles heading to shops on Jalan Pintu Besar Selatan," said Rendy. Meanwhile, at Simpang Asemka, the middle part of the intersection will be used as a construction work area so that traffic flows from Jalan Pintu Besar Utara to Jalan Pintu Besar Selatan and vice versa are diverted through the west side of the project area. Rendy said all traffic engineering was carried out through coordination with the DKI Jakarta Transportation Office and the Metro Jaya Police Traffic Directorate. "The public is urged to comply with traffic signs and follow the instructions of officers in the field for smooth and safe travel," he concluded.
