Cambodia Pushes for More Effective Engineer Qualification Management

Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training and President of the Council of the Engineering Profession of Cambodia, presided over a meeting of the Council of the Engineering Profession of Cambodia on the afternoon of September 10, 2026, at the Ministry's headquarters. The meeting aimed to review work results achieved and set directions for the ongoing work of the Secretariat of the Council of the Engineering Profession of Cambodia, as well as to provide timely solutions to challenges, with the goal of enhancing work efficiency. Addressing the meeting, attended by members from relevant ministries and institutions of the Council of the Engineering Profession of Cambodia, the Minister highly commended the Council for diligently fulfilling its roles and responsibilities with a high sense of accountability. Notable achievements include capacity building for professional practice, the first-ever online registration system for national and international engineers, continued dissemination of the benefits of engineer registration and related legal standards, and the effective implementation of the six recommendations previously issued. Following presentations on work activities during the first eight months of 2026 and future work directions, the meeting engaged in a lively discussion, offering valuable feedback on the implementation and activities of the Secretariat of the Council of the Engineering Profession of Cambodia. These inputs are intended to collectively address shortcomings and ensure that the Council's work proceeds smoothly and efficiently, leading to better outcomes and contributions to national development by the government. To further enhance the effectiveness of task execution both domestically and at the ASEAN level, the Minister provided valuable recommendations for the Council of the Engineering Profession of Cambodia. These include expanding cooperation with certain key institutions or companies involved in engineer management within specific sectors, and organizing the issuance of certificates of appreciation or compliance for enterprises that utilize engineers legally and adhere to the common principles of the engineering profession in Cambodia. Furthermore, to elevate the prestige of the Council of the Engineering Profession of Cambodia, he encouraged strengthening and expanding cooperation with ASEAN engineering bodies or international engineering federations to organize international conferences related to engineers in Cambodia. Additionally, he stressed the importance of increasing the dissemination of information regarding the benefits of registering with the Council of the Engineering Profession of Cambodia, as well as related legal and technical standards.
