Authorities Urged to Clear Bottlenecks for Agro-Forestry-Fishery Exports to Exceed $74 Billion

Authorities have been urged to accelerate efforts to clear export bottlenecks, a pressing issue as Vietnam aims to push its agro-forestry-fishery exports beyond $74 billion. Party and State leaders have called for clear definition of development models and strategic roles, particularly in the Northwest region, urging focused resource allocation on sectors with the greatest potential rather than spreading investment too thinly. By safeguarding key production areas, expanding deep processing, promoting green production, and improving climate resilience, Vietnam's agro-forestry-fishery sector is poised to sustain export growth and further expand its global market share. In the first six months of the year, agricultural products generated $18.59 billion (up 0.2% year-on-year), aquatic products $5.7 billion (up 11.4%), forestry products $9.2 billion (up 4.6%), livestock products $375.8 million (up 34.6%), and salt $7.7 million (up 39.8%). Domestically, household deposits at banks reached a new high of VND 10.8 quadrillion ($414 billion) at the end of May, an increase of over VND 108 trillion from April and up 4.76% from the beginning of the year. The Law on E-commerce has also been amended to clearly define the legal responsibilities of all participants in the digital marketplace, moving beyond just consumer protection. In international relations, Western Australia's Premier described Vietnam as a key partner in Southeast Asia, highlighting the state's growing role in the global clean energy transition. Furthermore, Vietnam has been added to India's list of countries permitted to export fresh durian, with no special import conditions imposed. Under Vietnam's one-party system, economic growth remains a top priority, with agricultural exports directly contributing to foreign exchange earnings and improving livelihoods. In terms of relations with China, Vietravel Airlines has announced plans for direct flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Shenzhen, indicating strengthening economic ties, though reliance on China remains a point of consideration.
