Northern Thailand Universities Unite to Promote Local Thai Textiles

CHIANG MAI – Rajabhat University and seven partner schools have launched the “Exquisite Fabrics, Creative Wisdom” exhibition in Chiang Mai, running from July 24 to 26, 2026. This initiative aims to boost the local economy by integrating traditional weaving wisdom with modern research and a green economy approach. The event, which officially opened on July 24, 2026, was inaugurated by Danuporn Punnakanta, an official from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. The gathering attracted a large audience of researchers, business owners, students, and local citizens. Deputy Governor of Chiang Mai, Boonlue Thammatharanurak, welcomed the attendees, while Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chatree Maneekosol, president of Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, elaborated on the event’s core objectives. Throughout the weekend, visitors can explore research and innovation exhibits from the eight universities. Central Chiang Mai Airport has been transformed into a vibrant marketplace where shoppers can directly purchase unique products from local artisans. The event also offers interactive workshops on natural dyeing and traditional weaving, alongside live music and cultural shows. This large-scale event serves as a crucial meeting point for researchers, entrepreneurs, and rural villagers, fostering an open exchange of ideas that drives beneficial research into commercial application.
