Cambodia Rushes to Save Rice Crops Amid Drought with Pumping Station Aid

In Doun Kaev City, Takeo Province, southern Cambodia, local authorities have launched an emergency intervention to rescue the rainy season rice crops facing a crisis due to severe drought and water shortages. Dim Kimsan, Mayor of Doun Kaev City, accompanied by relevant department leaders and local authorities, personally inspected the situation of farmers in Chroy Samraong village and Svay Chum village who are suffering from drought and lack of irrigation water. The mayor has provided a sum of money to repair the pumping stations to function properly and to purchase diesel fuel for pumping water to save the rainy season rice crops of farmers affected by the drought. This intervention took place on Saturday, September 5, 2026, in Chroy Samraong and Svay Chum villages, Baray commune, Doun Kaev City. At the site of the pumping station, Mayor Dim Kimsan instructed local commune/village authorities and relevant departments to pay close attention and regularly monitor the pumping intervention activities to save the rainy season rice crops for the people, and not to allow the farmers' rice crops to be damaged due to lack of water. Mayor Dim Kimsan further stated that the well-being and crops of the farmers are the top priority of the Doun Kaev City administration. Commune/village authorities and relevant departments must cooperate closely to grasp the water situation from various sources and be prepared to intervene in pumping water to save the rainy season rice crops of the people in a timely manner. He affirmed that no matter the cost, no farmer's rice crop should be allowed to be damaged due to lack of irrigation water. The mayor added that this direct inspection is to respond to the real challenges and to timely rescue the rainy season rice crops for the people. This action demonstrates the high attention of the Doun Kaev City administration in contributing to protecting the interests, alleviating difficulties, and improving the living standards of the people in the locality.
