Vietnam, Cambodia Top Legislators Vow to Deepen Bilateral Ties

Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man held talks with President of the National Assembly of Cambodia Samdech Khuon Sudary in Hanoi on July 28, 2026, reaffirming parliamentary cooperation as a key pillar of the bilateral relationship. Both sides pledged to closely cooperate in implementing commitments and agreements reached by senior leaders, step up delegation exchanges, and enhance the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation mechanisms. They particularly emphasized promoting connectivity in transport infrastructure, border gates, logistics, and supply chains, aiming to raise two-way trade to US$20 billion at an early date. They also committed to accelerating border demarcation and marker planting and coordinating to maintain a shared borderline of peace, stability, and development. Furthermore, they agreed to jointly organize activities to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027 and strengthen public communication and education on the long-standing tradition of solidarity and friendship between the two nations, especially among younger generations. Experience exchange in areas of mutual interest, such as institutional development, legal system improvement, and supreme oversight, will be promoted. Cooperation will be strengthened between specialized committees, parliamentary friendship groups, female parliamentarians, and young legislators, along with enhanced joint oversight of the implementation of intergovernmental cooperation agreements and mutual support in multilateral forums. Chairman Tran urged Cambodia to create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese-origin community in the country and foster cooperation in the search, recovery, and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who sacrificed their lives in Cambodia. Regarding regional and international issues, both sides agreed to maintain close coordination to preserve peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region, further strengthen ASEAN unity, uphold the bloc's centrality, and enhance cooperation within Mekong subregion mechanisms. On the same day, the Cambodian legislator also paid courtesy visits to General Secretary and President To Lam and Prime Minister Le Minh Hung.
