Prabowo Honors Holy Quran at Gontor's 100th Anniversary

President Prabowo of Indonesia marked a notable moment during his attendance at the 100th-anniversary celebration of the Gontor Modern Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren Modern Darussalam Gontor) in Ponorogo, East Java, on Saturday (19/9/2026). During the ceremony, the President received a special copy of the Holy Quran (Mushaf Alquran) from the school's leader, KH Hasan Abdullah Sahal. President Prabowo gazed at the Quran for a moment before kissing its surface as a sign of respect in front of the invited guests. The Quran was written by Gontor's students and teachers and published by the school's own printing division. According to KH Hasan, this is the first time an Islamic boarding school in Indonesia has produced a Quran adhering to Indonesian standards. The project began in 2023 and took approximately three years to complete, involving writing, verification, and printing. The initial print run was 2,000 copies. During the event, a book titled 'Gontor untuk Indonesia' (Gontor for Indonesia) was also presented to the President. This book chronicles Gontor's 100-year journey and its contributions to national education in Indonesia, detailing its educational system and the development of its alumni in various fields. In his closing remarks, KH Hasan expressed his hope for continued cooperation between Gontor and the Indonesian government.
