PNP Intensifies Operations Against Contract Killers, Unlicensed Gun Dealers

MANILA, Philippines — Gun-for-hire groups and dealers of unregistered firearms are facing stronger police operations. Following Vice President Sara Duterte’s remark of hiring a gunman for P5,000, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is strengthening intelligence and investigative activities. Duterte is facing an impeachment trial for, among other things, supposedly hiring an assassin to kill President Marcos and his family in the event of her death. Police are urging people with credible information about contract killings to report these to authorities for immediate validation and action. “We are intensifying operations against illegal firearms, pursuing wanted persons linked to organized criminal activities and working closely with prosecutors and partner agencies to ensure successful prosecution,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said. Records reveal that some confiscated firearms are linked to more than two criminal activities. “Every piece of credible information can help save lives, solve cases and hold offenders accountable,” Nartatez said. “We encourage the public to continue working with the PNP as we pursue those who threaten the safety and security of our communities.” Source: Philstar Nation
