Flash Flood Hits Saraburi's Cha-om, Tourists Rescued

Heavy rain in the mountainous upstream areas of Cha-om subdistrict, Kaeng Khoi district, Saraburi province, triggered a rapid surge of runoff on the evening of August 30th, flooding several communities and leaving some tourists stranded at accommodations. Local officials and rescue teams responded swiftly, ensuring the safety of all stranded individuals. The flooding began around 6 p.m. following intense rainfall in the upstream regions near Chet Kot Waterfall and Krok E-Dok Waterfall. The resulting runoff cascaded into lower-lying villages, including Khlong Hin Ruang in Village 9, where tourists found themselves isolated at their lodgings. Local authorities and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to assist the stranded tourists, successfully evacuating everyone to safety. The floodwaters then advanced towards Village 8 in Ban Hin Tang, with strong currents reported near the Thai-Lao Bridge, before spreading into the lower areas of Villages 2, 7, and 10. Some roads were blocked by fallen trees, but the village headman of Village 10 arranged for a backhoe to clear the obstructions and reopen the routes. Saraburi Governor Bancha Chaowarin and Deputy Governor Suraphan Silapasuwan directed the response, while Kaeng Khoi District Chief Jiranchai Athitnopchai coordinated operations with district officials, village leaders, and local authorities. Officials stated that the flooding was caused by heavy rainfall in elevated areas, leading to a rapid downhill flow of large volumes of water. Areas near streams and other waterways were particularly affected by the quick rise in water levels. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and assess damage while preparing assistance for affected residents. Residents and tourists in Cha-om are urged to remain vigilant, especially those staying near waterfalls, streams, and low-lying areas.
