Landslide Blocks Key Chiang Mai Highway, Reduces Traffic to One Lane

CHIANG MAI, Thailand – Heavy rainfall in Chiang Mai has triggered flash flooding and a landslide that blocked part of Highway 107 on the Fang–Mae Salak route, leaving motorists with only one lane available. The landslide occurred at around 9:20 a.m. on July 30, between kilometers 30 and 31, where soil from a hillside collapsed onto the roadway. Officials inspected the area and moved quickly to manage traffic, warning drivers to proceed with caution as the hillside remains saturated from continued rainfall and could experience further landslides. Authorities warned that if heavy rain continues, additional soil movement could block both lanes and completely close the route. Motorists using the Fang–Mae Salak road are advised to check conditions before travelling, plan ahead, and follow instructions from officials. Several areas in Mae Ai district have also been affected by heavy rain, including flash floods, landslides, and fallen trees blocking roads. Relevant agencies are continuing inspections and providing assistance to affected communities. Drivers are urged to avoid stopping or parking near hillsides and steep slopes where landslide risks remain high.
