Cambodian Deputy PM Inspects, Encourages Border Protection Forces

AKP Phnom Penh, September 1, 2026 -- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H.E. Aphi Santepundit Sar Sokha paid a visit to the border protection police battalions under the Provincial Police Commissariat of Battambang and Pailin on Aug. 31 afternoon, at the Battambang Provincial Police Headquarters. Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister commended the frontline forces for their courage and dedication to safeguarding territorial integrity against foreign aggression, highlighting their strong unity and solid presence along the border. He urged the frontline personnel to maintain unwavering trust in the leadership of the Royal Government of Cambodia, which consistently prioritises their welfare and operational readiness. While border police forces previously played a secondary role rather than serving as primary frontline combatants, H.E. Sar Sokha noted that their mandate has expanded significantly over time. He emphasised that the border police now work shoulder-to-shoulder with the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF), describing their close partnership as vital and mutually interdependent. During the visit, the Deputy Prime Minister distributed financial assistance, food supplies, and essential materials to Border Police Battalions No. 817, 819, 823, 310, and 821. Each battalion received 10 million Riel (US$2,500), two tonnes of rice, 200 cases of instant noodles, 20 cases of canned fish, 30 kilogrammes of dried fish, 30 kilogrammes of sausages, 20 kilogrammes of preserved radish, 30 packs of fish sauce, 20 packs of soy sauce, 100 cases of bottled water, and 30 tents.
