Cambodia Strengthens Water Resource Management Amidst El Niño Concerns, Inspects Kep Province Reservoirs
Cambodia's Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology Deputy Secretary of State, Vun Chan Tho, inspected three key reservoirs in Kep Province amidst concerns over El Niño's impact. She instructed provincial departments to prepare for drought intervention and advised citizens to conserve water and limit unplanned dry-season cultivation.
Vun Chan Tho, Deputy Secretary of State of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology and Head of the Working Group for Coordination of Water Resources and Meteorology Management in Kep Province, inspected the situation of water in various reservoirs and irrigation systems in Kep Province on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. The Deputy Secretary of State and her working group inspected three key reservoirs: 1. Ronease Reservoir, located in Pong Tuek Commune, Damnak Chang'aeur District. 2. O' Krasa Reservoir, located in O' Krasa Sangkat, Kep City. 3. O' Thom Reservoir, located in Pong Tuek Commune, Damnak Chang'aeur District. The Deputy Secretary of State also instructed the Kep Provincial Department of Water Resources and Meteorology to prepare for intervention to rescue rice crops and to disseminate information to the public to suspend dry-season cultivation beyond the plan, as well as to use water economically and store water in the reservoirs to avoid water shortages due to the impact of the El Niño phenomenon, which prolongs the dry season and increases temperatures.
