New German Ambassador to Cambodia Meets Acting Prime Minister Hun Sen

Acting Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia received a courtesy call and held a meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Kingdom of Cambodia, H.E. Ms. Silke Röfer. The meeting took place at the Peace Palace, located within the Senate building in the capital city of Phnom Penh. This meeting is seen as marking a new phase in the bilateral relations between Cambodia and Germany. Germany, as a major European Union member state, plays a part in the international community's interest in Cambodia's economic development and democratization process. In recent years, while Cambodia has deepened its ties with China, it has also sought to maintain and strengthen relations with Western countries. This meeting could be positioned as part of that diplomatic strategy. Ambassador Röfer is presumed to have conveyed her intention to further develop the friendly relations between the two countries and deepen cooperation in economic, cultural, and political fields as she begins her tenure in Cambodia.
