Jakarta Establishes LPDP Program for Postgraduate Scholarships

The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has signed Gubernatorial Regulation (Pergub) Number 20 of 2026, which establishes the "LPDP Jakarta" program, a scholarship initiative for Jakarta residents to pursue master's and doctoral degrees. This information was conveyed by the Deputy Coordinator of the Governor's Special Staff for DKI Jakarta Province, Yustinus Prastowo, through an upload on his personal X account. He stated that the regulation was recently signed by Governor Pramono and Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Rano Karno. "Governor has just signed Pergub 20/2026. This is the Pergub that regulates the establishment of LPDP Jakarta," Prastowo wrote in his tweet, Saturday (12/9). SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT According to Prastowo, LPDP Jakarta is prepared as a scholarship program for high-achieving residents to continue their education up to the master's and doctoral levels at the best universities in the world. The Pergub also regulates the strengthening of the governance for the "Kartu Jakarta Pintar (KJP)" and "Kartu Jakarta Mahasiswa Unggul (KJMU)" programs. This strengthening is aimed at ensuring that the distribution of these two programs is more targeted and in line with the policies of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. "This Pergub 20 is written by two hands: Pak Pram and Bang Rano, in order to realize the vision: breaking the chain of disadvantage!" Prastowo wrote in his tweet. He also conveyed that the verification process for KJP and KJMU recipients is still ongoing. Parents who are ensuring their children become recipients of these two programs are asked to ensure that the data used is correct and to update it if necessary. Pramono had previously assured that the LPDP Jakarta scholarship program would still be implemented in 2027, despite the DKI Jakarta DPRD (Regional Representative Council) proposing to postpone the plan. The proposal for postponement came from Commission E of the DPRD DKI Jakarta, which requested that the LPDP Jakarta budget be reallocated for more urgent educational needs, such as repairing damaged schools and increasing the quota for free private schools. Pramono stated that the needs for repairing damaged schools would be handled using several funding sources, including funds from the Building Floor Coefficient (KLB). He mentioned that the budget for repairing damaged schools is even larger than what was proposed by the DPRD. "Thus, the budget for handling damaged schools is even larger than what was proposed. But LPDP will still be implemented," Pramono said at the Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (19/8). Meanwhile, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Education Agency, Nahdiana, previously said that LPDP Jakarta is being prepared to open opportunities for children in the capital to continue their education abroad.
