LPA Expected to Enter PAR, Potential Tropical Depression Kiyapo to Bring Rains

A low-pressure area (LPA) is likely to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as early as Tuesday and has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). The LPA was last located 1,525 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas as of 2 p.m. and has a “high” chance of developing into a tropical depression within 24 hours, PAGASA said in its 4 p.m. tropical cyclone outlook. In its earlier 5 a.m. briefing, PAGASA said the LPA may enter PAR between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning. “We can also see that once it enters and gradually moves closer to our country, it may bring rains over large parts of the country,” PAGASA Weather Specialist Veronica C. Torres said in Filipino during the briefing. Once the LPA develops into a tropical depression and enters PAR, it will be assigned the local name Kiyapo, the country’s 11th tropical cyclone for 2026. PAGASA has yet to announce its forecast track or whether tropical cyclone wind signals will be raised should Kiyapo form.
