Cambodia: Rural Road Construction Progress Reviewed, Impact on Residents Addressed

On September 20, H.E. Chhay Rithisen, Minister of Rural Development, personally inspected the technical specifications and addressed public impact issues concerning a 1,000-meter-long, 6-meter-wide concrete road in Chhveang Commune, Ponhear Loeu District, Kandal Province. This road connects Pongro Village to Sre Ampil Village and is being constructed by the Engineering Corps of the Ministry of National Defence. The road construction has achieved approximately 90% progress, with the main roadbed construction completed at 100%. However, the shoulder construction is experiencing delays. Heavy and continuous rainfall has led to the road being inundated, causing disruptions to the travel and livelihoods of the local population. His Excellency the Minister instructed the engineering team to expedite the clearing and cleaning of the road surface immediately to facilitate the normal movement and livelihoods of the residents. As of the evening of September 20, the work team from the Ministry of Rural Development, under the direct command of His Excellency the Minister, in cooperation with local authorities and with the participation of the residents, has resolved this issue smoothly and completely. It is also noted that the Ministry will implement strict measures for the application of road construction technical standards to prevent such issues from recurring in the future. Source: AKP Khmer
