PNP Investigates Unlicensed Police Vehicle After Social Media Post

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday said it was investigating an incident in which a police vehicle was supposedly used without a license plate. The vehicle in question was posted on social media by a netizen through the page Visor, alleging that a vehicle bearing the markings of the Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG) had been spotted along Commonwealth Avenue last Sunday. In a statement, the PNP confirmed that the vehicle was duly registered to the PSPG. READ: Manila cop in online video relieved over alleged traffic violation “Nonetheless, its operation must comply with existing requirements governing vehicle identification and the proper display of license plates,” it said. “The concerned unit and personnel have been identified, and an internal investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” it added. The photo shows the vehicle plying the southbound lanes of Commonwealth Avenue near the Manggahan station of the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 undergoing construction. “Any violation or administrative lapse established by the investigation shall be addressed in accordance with existing PNP rules and due process,” the national police force stressed. “The PNP appreciates the vigilance of the concerned citizen in bringing the matter to the attention of authorities for appropriate action,” it maintained. /das
