Ho Chi Minh City Explores International Cooperation Potential

Ho Chi Minh City is actively exploring cooperation potential with foreign localities, aiming to deepen its ties with the international community. This initiative underscores the city's drive to boost foreign direct investment (FDI) and enhance its global presence. The municipal statistics authority reported that total registered FDI in the southern economic hub exceeded US$3.8 billion in the first five months of the year. In the first quarter of 2026 alone, the city attracted nearly US$2.9 billion in FDI, a 220% year-on-year increase. It is projected to draw an additional US$8.9 billion in the second quarter, paving the way to meet its annual target of US$11 billion. Beyond economic ties, cultural exchange is also a key focus. Following the Vietnamese Film Week in France in 2025, there is a proposal to hold a Vietnamese Theatre Week in France in October. This event is expected to feature water puppetry, musical theatre, contemporary dance, and excerpts from traditional Vietnamese performances, serving as a platform to showcase Vietnam's rich culture and foster mutual understanding. Vietnam is also increasing its influence in international forums such as BRICS. Its participation provides a platform to engage with members and partners, debate global and regional governance, particularly on economic and development issues tied to emerging and developing economies. This engagement supports Vietnam's shift from "engaging in rule-making to contributing to shaping rules," amplifying its voice in international frameworks and standards, and solidifying its global standing. General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam has called for deeper cooperation with France, particularly in raising the localization rate of core technologies in Vietnam's new-generation Earth observation satellite project and in implementing doctoral and supervised master's training courses. This highlights Vietnam's commitment to technological self-reliance. Furthermore, Vietnam emphasizes deepening comprehensive cooperation with Poland, both bilaterally and multilaterally, aiming to make bilateral ties more substantive and effective. The Vietnamese Ambassador noted Vietnam's crucial role as an ASEAN member and its importance as a partner for India on the multilateral stage. These developments collectively illustrate Vietnam's multifaceted strategy to accelerate economic growth, expand its international influence, and promote its cultural identity on the global stage.
