Australia Boosts Cashew Processing Capacity in Cambodia

Cambodia, the world's second-largest raw cashew producer, processes only 5% of its total yield domestically. This lack of domestic processing capacity results in a loss of potential revenue exceeding $125 million annually, leaving farmers and traders exposed to market price volatility, according to a release from the Australian Embassy in Cambodia on August 7, 2026. Australia is collaborating with Olam Food Ingredients (ofi), a global agri-business company holding a 20-25% share of the global cashew market, to enhance cashew processing capacity by 80 tons per day and drive investment of up to $10 million in Cambodia's cashew processing sector. Australia remains committed to attracting quality investments that create jobs and support businesses, thereby aiding Cambodia in building a robust economy and prosperity. This initiative by Australia is crucial for Cambodia's economic diversification, moving beyond raw commodity exports towards value-added processing.
