Loren Legarda Extends Medical Leave Until October 9

Senator Loren Legarda has extended her medical leave until October 9, as she continues to receive medical treatment for a serious lung illness. Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr. confirmed the extension on Monday. Legarda's leave periods are scheduled as follows: September 21 to 23; September 28 to October 2; and October 5 to 9. She has been on medical leave since August 3, with her last public appearance at the Senate being on July 29 during a plenary session. Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri had previously stated that Legarda is undergoing treatment for her condition but could not provide a definitive return date. He added that she wishes to return to the Philippines as soon as possible but requires further medical tests. Senator Panfilo Lacson shared that Legarda has sought moral support from her colleagues. "Loren and I have spoken twice. She hasn't mentioned whether she will return or not," Lacson told Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday. "Her appeal to us, as her colleagues in the Senate, was simply for moral support." Legarda and her son, Batangas 1st District Representative Leandro Leviste, are facing complaints for plunder and graft in connection with the alleged failure of Leviste's renewable energy firm to provide solar power as mandated by its congressional franchise.
