Cambodia Emphasizes Youth Development: Beyond Skills, Instilling Morality and Patriotism for 2050 Vision

Cambodia is prioritizing youth development as a key objective for achieving its national vision by 2050. Pen Bona, Minister Delegate attached to the Prime Minister and Chairman of the Government Spokesperson Unit, emphasized during a lecture at the Technical Institute of the South Techo Sen Takao Region that "youth must not only acquire solid knowledge and specialized skills but also become individuals with discipline, morality, integrity, and true patriotism." Bona highlighted the "Pentagonal Strategy" led by Prime Minister Hun Manet, whose first pillar focuses on human capital development. This strategy aims to provide opportunities and enhance the value of human resources, particularly for youth development. He encouraged students to "learn beyond knowing," meaning not just acquiring theoretical knowledge for diplomas, but also developing practical application skills and flexible problem-solving abilities. He noted that strengthening knowledge and skills is crucial for youth to be resilient and prepared for a highly competitive job market. Truly capable individuals can not only create opportunities for themselves but also contribute to the nation's socio-economic development. Furthermore, Bona reminded attendees that discipline, morality, and integrity are core values that must walk hand-in-hand with knowledge and skills to build responsible and high-quality human capital. He stressed that fostering patriotism is increasingly important for the new generation, especially in the current context where the nation faces territorial aggression. Youth are urged to participate in maintaining solidarity, trusting the government's leadership, and contributing to the defense of national sovereignty and interests according to their roles and capabilities. The event was attended by approximately 500 participants, including Thou Sopheap, Director of the Technical Institute of the South Techo Sen Takao Region, faculty members, and students from the institute and the Takao Region Teacher Training Center.
