MinebeaMitsumi Deepens Cambodia Footprint with High‑Tech, Green Expansion

PHNOM PENH, July 29, 2026 (KPT) — Japanese precision manufacturer MinebeaMitsumi is deepening its investment footprint in Cambodia, building on nearly 15 years of operations as the Kingdom seeks more high‑tech and environmentally sustainable manufacturing. Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), met MinebeaMitsumi CEO Yoshihisa Kainuma and senior management Wednesday to discuss expansion plans. The CDC said the project would contribute to sustainable development, technology integration and efforts to attract international investors. MinebeaMitsumi entered Cambodia in 2010 and began production in 2011 at its Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone factory, which produces precision components such as ball bearings and motors. The facility has created nearly 10,000 jobs while supporting technology transfer and skills development. The company secured land in Pursat province in 2024 for a second factory, with operations expected to begin in 2026–2027. The new facility will operate using renewable energy as part of MinebeaMitsumi’s goal of carbon‑neutral production, adding a green dimension to its expansion. The project aligns with Cambodia’s push to diversify its industrial base and attract more technology‑intensive manufacturing beyond traditional labor‑intensive industries. Kainuma also met Prime Minister Hun Manet and Senate President Hun Sen earlier this week to discuss business progress and future investment. MinebeaMitsumi expressed confidence in Cambodia’s investment environment, while the government pledged to maintain a competitive climate and encourage deeper links with domestic suppliers. The expansion comes as Cambodia seeks greater Japanese investment in advanced manufacturing and sustainable production, with established firms seen as anchors for attracting suppliers and new entrants.
