
Laos President's Passing: China and Vietnam Express Condolences
Mr. Xaysomphone Phomvihane, Member of the Political Bureau of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and President of the National Assembly of the Lao PDR, passed away on August 8, 2026. China's Communist Party conveyed condolences via Comrade Zhao Leji, and a high-level delegation from Vietnam's Communist Party also paid tribute. Various sectors within Laos are also mourning his loss.
