PNP, DepEd Collaborate on School Shooter Drills
The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) will collaborate on active shooter simulation drills in schools, aiming to enhance student safety and foster trust in law enforcement.
MANILA, Philippines — Police will join the Department of Education in holding active shooter simulation drills in schools. The presence of law enforcers during drills will help build trust and offer peace of mind to students, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said yesterday. Nearby campuses will be incorporated by police into their daily beat patrols. Police presence during Monday flag-raising ceremonies is expected. The PNP women and children protection desk will support school programs centered on guidance counseling and the establishment of anti-bullying desks. Education Secretary Sonny Angara earlier said active shooter drills would focus on survival actions during a gun attack. On June 22, two Grade 9 shooters aged 14 and 15 attacked a Tacloban school, killing three students and injuring 20 others.
