Cambodia Pledges Renewed Crackdown on Online Scams to Assure Chinese Investors
Cambodian government officials reiterated their commitment to eradicating online scams before an audience of around 60 Chinese entrepreneurs. They stated that such activities harm Cambodia's reputation and deter investment, announcing a special committee led by the Prime Minister to intensify countermeasures. The peaceful resolution of the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute was also emphasized.
In front of approximately 60 business owners from China, government officials in Cambodia have once again affirmed their commitment to cracking down on online scamming. Officials stated that online scams do not contribute to Cambodia's socio-economic development at all; instead, they have negative impacts and affect the attraction of investors to the country. To address this issue, the Prime Minister has established a special committee, chaired by himself and comprised of four Deputy Prime Ministers, to find methods to eliminate online scams and restore Cambodia's image. Beyond addressing online scams to provide reassurance to investors, the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) also took the opportunity at the Cambodia-China Business Cooperation Forum to discuss the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute. Officials clarified to the Chinese investors that the Cambodian side does not desire war or loss of life and always chooses to use peaceful mechanisms to restore peace. Cambodia maintains a clear stance that war cannot be used to suppress war; instead, peaceful negotiation mechanisms that support peace must be employed to avoid armed conflict.
