Cambodia Red Cross Donates $100,000 to China for Flood Disaster Relief

The Cambodian Red Cross has donated $100,000 USD to the Chinese Red Cross Society as a contribution to assist with the extensive flood damage in China. The funds were transferred through the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia. A symbolic handover ceremony was held at the Chinese Embassy, conveying condolences and support from Bun Rany Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Red Cross. Ms. Pum Chanty, Secretary General of the Cambodian Red Cross, expressed deep regret over the flood disaster in China, which has resulted in significant property damage, the evacuation of nearly 900,000 people, and casualties. She also conveyed gratitude for the assistance provided by the Chinese Ambassador, including food and supplies to Cambodian displaced persons in the past. Furthermore, Ms. Chanty mentioned that several Cambodian Red Cross officials have recently attended training on Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in China, highlighting a facet of bilateral technical cooperation. She recalled the substantial support from the Chinese Red Cross during the COVID-19 pandemic, recognizing the Chinese Red Cross as a crucial "strategic partner" for the Cambodian Red Cross in areas of community development and resilience building. In response, H.E. Wang Wenbin, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Cambodia, stated that Cambodia and China are "brothers who share joy and sorrow," maintaining a long-standing tradition of solidarity and mutual assistance. The Ambassador commended the Cambodian Red Cross for its contributions to improving citizens' livelihoods and invited a delegation from the Cambodian Red Cross to visit the Chinese Red Cross at a suitable time. This donation underscores the close diplomatic ties between Cambodia and China and the importance of mutual support during natural disasters. China has been a long-standing major supporter of Cambodia, playing a significant role not only in economic development but also in humanitarian aid. This assistance can be seen as an embodiment of the "community of shared future" concept between the two nations.
