Pakse to Host Grand 2026 Boun Ork Phansa Festival and International Boat Race

Pakse City, Champasak Province, is preparing to host the 2026 Boun Ork Phansa (End of Buddhist Lent) and Traditional Boat Racing Festival on October 26–27. The two-day festival will offer a range of traditional activities, including alms-giving ceremonies, candlelit processions, wax castle processions (Phasat Pheung), floating lanterns, land-based fire boat processions and the traditional water-based fire boat ceremony known as Lai Reua Fai. A major attraction will be the traditional boat races, with competitions for boats crewed by 12, 24, 33 and 55 rowers, as well as a special international boat race expected to bring additional excitement to the event. The festival will also feature exhibition markets showcasing local products and signature foods from Pakse, along with cultural performances and entertainment activities. Pakse authorities and local residents are preparing to welcome visitors from across the Lao PDR and abroad, offering an opportunity to experience the city’s traditional culture, religious customs and vibrant festival atmosphere during the annual Boun Ork Phansa celebrations.
