Phu Quoc Canoe Capsize: Last Victim Identified, Repatriation Efforts Underway
All victims of the Phu Quoc island canoe capsize accident have been identified, and repatriation efforts for the deceased to India are progressing in coordination with the Indian government. Investigations into the cause of the accident and measures to prevent recurrence are also being expedited.

The accident occurred around 1:00 PM on July 11, approximately 200 meters off Hon May Rut Ngoai Island. The passenger canoe AG-26751, carrying 32 Indian tourists and three crew members, was en route from Hon May Rut Ngoai Island to An Thoi Port when it capsized due to strong waves and wind. Rescue operations were immediately launched, and ultimately, 15 fatalities were confirmed. The canoe was operated by Ocean Pearl Island Company. In response to this tragedy, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and State President To Lam and Prime Minister Le Minh Hung extended condolences to Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Medical teams at a nearby hospital activated emergency response protocols to treat the injured.
