Cambodia Distributes Bicycles and Safety Gear to Needy Students with Indian Support

The Ministry of Information's working group, in collaboration with the government's working group for O'Kreang Sen Chey district, distributed 88 bicycles, safety helmets, and water bottles to underprivileged students in O'Kreang Sen Chey district, Kratie province on September 11, 2026. The handover ceremony was presided over by H.E. Heng Chan Thoun, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Mines and Energy and Head of the Government Working Group for O'Kreang Sen Chey district, and H.E. Prak Thav Amida, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Information and Representative of H.E. Net Pheaktra, Minister of Information and Head of the Government Working Group for Kratie Province. Approximately 170 participants attended, including members of the Ministry of Information's implementation team, the government's working group for O'Kreang Sen Chey district, provincial working groups, representatives from the Kratie Provincial Administration, the Provincial Department of Information, the Provincial Department of Education, Youth and Sports, the O'Kreang Sen Chey District Administration, the District Office of Education, Youth and Sports, school principals, teachers, parents, and guardians. This initiative, a Quick Impact Project (QIP) Phase 2, is funded by the Indian government under the Mekong-Ganges Cooperation framework, facilitated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia. To date, a total of 288 bicycles, helmets, and water bottles have been distributed. This includes 200 sets in Phase 1, distributed at primary schools in Pak Khle, Sre Chih, Roulous, Sre Sbov, and Ponhea, and the first batch of 88 sets in Phase 2, distributed at Khsach Lao and Chhuk primary schools in O'Kreang Sen Chey district. The valuable donation from the Indian government is expected to reduce students' travel time to school, encourage regular attendance, and enhance their learning opportunities for a brighter future. It will also alleviate the burden on families facing difficulties, especially for students in remote areas of O'Kreang Sen Chey district. H.E. Prak Thav Amida, representing H.E. Net Pheaktra, expressed profound gratitude to the Indian government and the Indian Embassy in the Kingdom of Cambodia for their financial support in implementing the project to promote student education within the community in O'Kreang Sen Chey district. He also urged the students to study diligently, adhere to school discipline, follow the advice of their teachers and parents, and become good children, students, and citizens for the nation. He also emphasized the importance of road safety, particularly wearing helmets and using bicycles cautiously when commuting to and from school.
