LRT-1 Las Piñas Station Construction Timeline Estimated at 3 Years by DOTr

The Department of Transportation (DoTr) expects a three-year construction timeline for the Las Piñas station of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) Cavite extension project. "Once we have the formal permit to enter, we will proceed with the demolition. Based on our estimate, it will take three years including demolition, acquisition, design and the actual construction of the station," said Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) Administrator Hernando T. Cabrera. The DoTr has stated that major right-of-way issues along the rail line’s alignment have been resolved, allowing the construction of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension to move forward. The department anticipates signing a memorandum of agreement with the Villar group this month concerning their donation of a property that will be part of the extension. "We just had a meeting with senior officials of the Villar group. They are just waiting for the formal release of the property. We are confident that it will be released within September," Mr. Cabrera said. Following the finalization of the agreement, demolition will commence, and the property will be handed over to the private concessionaire, Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC). "We are expediting all of these so that we can expedite the timeline of the project," Mr. Cabrera added. Earlier this year, President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. directed the DoTr to ensure the LRT-1 Cavite Extension is completed by 2028. LRMC, the LRT-1 operator, opened Phase 1 of the Cavite Extension in 2024, adding five stations to the rail line. This initial phase extended the line by 6.2 kilometers, connecting Baclaran Station in Pasay City to Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque City.
