Indonesia Praises Cambodia's Leadership in Combating Online Scams

Indonesia's Deputy Foreign Minister, Arif Havas Oegroseno, stated that Cambodia has transformed from a victim of online scams to a leading nation in combating them, as evidenced by its preparations to host an upcoming international conference on the fight against technological fraud. During a meeting with Mr. Chai Sinarith, Secretary-General of the Secretariat of the Committee to Combat Technological Fraud (CCTF), on the afternoon of July 28 in Phnom Penh, Mr. Arif Havas Oegroseno expressed gratitude to Cambodia for its cooperation, support, and assistance in facilitating the repatriation of Indonesian citizens involved in online scams. He highly valued and commended the results of the crackdown and cleanup operations against online scams in Cambodia, as well as its role as the host of an international conference on the fight against technological fraud. "This signifies Cambodia's will and progress in transforming itself from a country victimized by technological fraud to one of the leading nations in combating technological fraud," he remarked. Mr. Arif also emphasized that technological fraud is a complex global problem requiring cooperation to jointly eradicate this global scam ecosystem. Indonesia is ready to provide support to Cambodia in strengthening the capacity of law enforcement officials and in cooperating generally in the fight against technological fraud. In the meeting, Mr. Chai Sinarith briefed on the government's commitment to eradicating online scams through the establishment of the CCTF mechanism, the Law on Combating Technological Fraud, and other relevant legal instruments, which contribute to the effective implementation of cleanup campaigns and the dismantling of criminal networks. To share experiences and seek further effective measures for combating this global crime, Cambodia will host the "International Conference on Combating Technological Fraud" from September 23 to 24, 2026, in Phnom Penh. The Cambodian government plans to invite 16 ministerial-level leaders, 14 senior technical officials from various countries, and 6 international organizations to attend the conference.
