Ho Chi Minh City Unearths 5 More Martyr Remains in Park, Total Reaches 160

Ho Chi Minh City announced the discovery of five more sets of martyr remains during ongoing collection efforts at Le Thi Rieng Park. The announcement was made on the afternoon of July 31 by the city's Military Command. The newly found remains were located in the second search area (Zone B) within the park, with four of them accompanied by what are believed to be personal effects. This latest discovery brings the total number of collected remains at the park to 160. This initiative is part of a nationwide effort in Vietnam to collect and properly rebury or honor the remains of soldiers who died during wartime. Similar activities have been reported across the country, such as in An Giang province where three sets of remains were collected based on information from residents and veterans, and in Nghe An province where an aluminum fragment with a soldier's name aided identification. Large-scale campaigns, like the '500 Days and Nights' operation, have yielded significant results, including the collection of 1,563 sets of remains and the discovery of nine mass graves. The Vietnamese government is implementing measures to enhance the effectiveness of these remains collection activities, which serve as a crucial opportunity to express national respect for sacrifices and the desire for peace.
