Cambodian Information Minister Highlights 'Information Diplomacy' for Global Engagement
Cambodia's Minister of Information emphasized the vital role of 'information diplomacy' in building global networks and communicating national priorities on the international stage during the closing ceremony of an international cooperation and diplomacy training program. He stressed that media's role must extend beyond content production to serve as a strategic tool for international engagement and public relations.
Cambodian Minister of Information H.E. Neth Pheaktra praised a newly concluded training programme on international cooperation and diplomacy, emphasising that "information diplomacy" is vital for building global networks and communicating the country's priorities on the international stage. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the two-day workshop on Wednesday evening, H.E. Pheaktra noted that amid an increasingly complex international landscape and rapid digital development, media work must extend beyond content production to act as a strategic tool for international engagement and public relations. "Information diplomacy plays a crucial role for news agencies in fostering close working networks among officials and empowering them as professional, proactive front-line staff in international relations," H.E. Pheaktra said, adding that accurately communicating Cambodia's progress and potential builds mutual understanding with foreign partners. The workshop, held from Sept. 15–16 at the Ministry of Information media training centre, brought together 82 civil servants, ranging from operational staff to deputy directors-general and deputy secretaries-general representing various ministry departments. The Secretary-General of the Ministry’s General Secretariat, H.E. Mrs. Tes Phallin, described the session as a success that met all targeted goals. She announced that following these results, the general secretariat plans to roll out further training modules in upcoming quarters, focusing on protocol, hospitality, and liaison duties. Information diplomacy can serve as a key strategy for Cambodia to clarify its position on the international stage, thereby enhancing economic development and strengthening diplomatic ties. Especially as relations with China deepen, strengthening international image management and external information dissemination capabilities will continue to be important challenges for Cambodia.
